The man that was on the losing end of all of this - Ikenna Njoku - had done absolutely nothing wrong. Yet when he went to cash his tax return check that was issued by the bank, the teller became very suspicious and held his check at the bank for a day. The next day, he comes back to find police waiting for him and he's arrested for trying to cash a forged check. He was later released after Chase realized what they did wrong, but it took him a full year of trying to contact them, a lost car and a lost job, the press, and a lawyer to get them to say anything at all to him. And this is all that they said:
This is a very unfortunate and unusual situation. We apologize to Mr. Njoku and deeply regret what happened to him. We are working quickly to understand all the details so we can reach a fair resolution.
A whopping three sentences after putting a man through a year of pain because of their huge mistake. Good job, Chase.
